The future of green
Located in the Oxford Parks precinct in Rosebank, BP’s Head Office interiors were designed to create an environment that embraces a new agile, flexible and collaborative way of working. Sustainability and green design not only informed the choice of materials, lighting, furniture and colour, but the overall design concept, which was based on the four elements of nature – Fire, Water, Air and Earth – that are instrumental in energy production.
By creating different work spaces - from pause areas for focused work to breakout spaces for brainstorming, social interaction and meetings – the interiors not only support a variety of jobs carried out by different department but inspire cross collaboration between business units and teams.
Integrating height adjustable desks, phone booths, a wellness centre and library further reflected BP’s new agile, adaptable way of working. The design of work spaces to fit specific tasks contributes to the successful uptake of ‘flexible desking’. Staff don’t have assigned desks and in-between meetings and working from home can take up space suited to what they are doing within their business unit.
‘Fire’ was assigned to the core areas, ‘Water’ to the meeting rooms, ‘Air’ to the open spacious workspaces and ‘Earth’ to the pause areas. A fifth element – ‘Space’ was assigned to the collaborative areas. The interiors further integrate and reflect BP’s brand and bright green future by weaving a unique, bold and fresh design language and colour palette throughout the offices.
